DALLAS LIVELY REGGAE FEST 2018

Greetings in the name of His Imperial Majesty, Haile Selassie the First; JAH RASTAFARI!! I love to shout and hear that from the first time I heard when me did small. Now as a man in the community, the praise still Itinues primarily due to it being November 2nd the 88th anniversary of the King's coronation. The weekend of, this Sunday, is when InI will be graced to particpLOVE in the 5th Annual Oak Cliff Reggae Fest. Big Up Ras Elijah and my bredren Joe Mixshow Jockey for the linky.

I prepare and plan to murder unu bludkleet as a sacrifice to the living god. OK that was crazy but we're never gonna survive unless ... The point is clearly if you are not following my cryptics, is my set ah go ...almost went back into patois. Gonna do my best to entertain one and all Sunday. The weather is gonna be perfecto

Today however I'm going to continue to practice and perfect my set. It's presentation of a representation of the style of reggae that formed my psyche of all things selectacious. I will be selecting and juggling. Bringing my DJ 808 on site which will be my first time using it for a public reggae situation. Me come fo nice up the lawn ... Check my mixcloud for the mix; either my practice set today or my live set tomorrow or JAH Willing both!
That's actually not an insane idea? Get to see the diff between the before and after huh? You know as a performing entertainer, I tend to be conscious of what I present which at times is to my own detriment resulting in not showing up. Inconsistency. This is why I haven't posted a podcast in months. Well if today is the 1st day of the rest of my life, why not begin?
Let me get busy yah?
Enough ranting. See you at the event or journey with me musically online. Love and Light

DECENT SOMETHING COME BLACK AGAIN

It's February! Happy Black History Month! Nappy Black OurHistory Month! Bob Marley Month, Dennis Brown Month and yes its CoknI O Dire Month. We were all born in February; D Brown on the 1st, Bob on the 6th and InI on the 23rd. Tribe of Joseph YU ZEEE IT? I say that all to say that its an honor to be in this tribe with these guys exactly; the King and Prince of Reggae.

My podcast "Decent Something" is finally available on Mixcloud. Wanted to get it on Soundcloud as well but its gonna take some figuring. The thing is on the free.99 account, you are allotted a limited amount of time and if you exceed that they bounce back an episode to make space for a new one. On this one, they decided to tell me fi GWEH! Since my podcast exceeded the 33 minutes that were available, I couldn't get it on there.
No worries because Mixcloud seems not to care what you do or the length for free. I never forget TINSTAFL (There is no such thing as a free lunch) because I had to do a lotta of work. Hours of editing and ting to get it on Mixcloud. First thing was to encode the aiff to an mp3 because Mixcloud nuh love aiffs. Then I imported the playlist from Serato that for some reason had nothing in certain columns when it populated on the Mixcloud site so I had to edit that. After making it nice and perfect which wasn't easy, it wouldn't let me publish. It said something about I couldn't publish this episode because there were errors in the form that had to be corrected before posting. (How bored are you of this story?)
Long story short, I figured out and here it is!

I say all I said to say that when you see my consistency don't take it for granted as I don't those who are religious with their posts. Federation always on point every Friday playing new music. I don't play new music. DJ Numark does an all vinyl performance video for every sign of the Zodiac equipt with moving camera and new honorees and configurations every year. Not easy.
If you podcast I just encourage you to make it pop. Its worth the work that you usually don't get paid to do but freedom is free for a reason and it's better than all material. I'm old enough to have experienced that without being hyperbolic. The reward is completing something creative and inspiring people in a way that will last longer than your days on the earth. Bless up and blossom

The OTO Show

Every Tuesday I plan - contemplate - let's be honest, PROCRASTINATE on doing this podcast.
For therapeutic purposes, I vent out frustrations and play a set having to do with what I'm feeling that week. I have a Mixcloud account and I feel like I'm not doing it the way that I am supposed to do it. Still, I believe that if I just do my best with what I got, then everything will be OK. I'm talking to my man D. Brown and he was like how do you know what to do? I was like as funny as it sounds or cliche, you just gotta do it. Even if it sucks. Just the idea of manifesting what you had in your head and heart is awesome. The success is in showing up. I can understand how that's not easy to do; it's not easy for me. Today's podcast would have never happened if I over-analyzed it or was crazy critical. I mean I am all those things but I can override my psychosis so that I can finish the task at hand.
Anyway, enjoy this and let me know what it do. Subscribe, rate, comment, share and follow man on FB, Twitter and Instagram @KingCoknI SALUTE

Alien: Covenant REVIEW

cov·e·nant

ˈkəvənənt/
noun
  1. 1.
    an agreement.
a·li·en
ˈālēən/
adjective
  1. 1.
belonging to a foreign country or nation.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS -- and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

That being said, I'd to explore the expectations and the disappointments I had with this movie. My reviews are hasty because I currently see movies when I can or afford as opposed to many established critics that are forwarded advanced releases to screen. No worries because I got to see it today in the last week of the merrily merrily month of May. I was taken by surprise ... Sorry. Let me contend with my apparent attention deficiency and get on down with my bad self.
Went to see Alien: Covenant with my wife and my neph both of whom I like seeing movies with from time to time. My nephew (@negroMagicTV) especially because we build and destroy. He a young boy and I'm a old head so our world views clash, but we still find enlightenment from each other somehow. The Wiz, my wife!, tends to come off unequipped with the convos that me and Nephew have but don't let her fool you. She knows what's up she just pretty over it which says a lot about what I took away from this film.
My early ALIEN experience took place in a bookstore. I didn't know Ridley Scott from Scott la Rock, but I heard about the movie Alien as it was released when I was quite young in 1979. Making moves on my roller skates in Manhattan rolling around Wall Street and fell up into a bookstore that had graphic novels in the back and that's when I saw it. The illustrated adaptation of Alien written by Archie Goodwin and illustrated by Walter Simonson. So real talk, I've never really seen the movie. Just parts and thought I'm not gonna see it because (A) I couldn't being under 17 without parent or guardian and (B) I know the whole story from seeing the graphic novel. I never bought the book because I had no money so go go gadget Amazon!

Can we just get back to what you thought about the movie CoknI? Sure. Fair enough. I liked it but I don't like spoilers so let me give you one which brings up my disappointment. All the color people die first. This wasn't what I was expecting in this Millenial era. My hope was they would actually have the movie be the success of wiping out all non-metalic organisms basically any living thing that breathes, eats or shits. The vibe I was on, was since there was a deeper view from following the career of the original Oscar winner, Alien designer H.R. Giger, we would see a little bit of an elaboration on that existentialist ideal that Giger reps in all his art. What came first, the mother or the idea of mother? I got that from the documentary on him. There is a scene in that doc where a guy got to meet him before he passed and just wept openly. I totally understand. To be around a person who gets it its divine. Speaking of, I gotta big up my bredren Divine Styler who's a sick graphic artist inspired by G.

What were we talking about? Oh yes! Alien: Covenant I thought it was a Hollywood vehicle designed to draw great numbers at the box office. I'm a ticket buyer. I don't really fool with bootlegs. I'm the type of guy who watches a movie and then go buy it if it's all that. The films I buy are to my standard movies you can watch over and over and get fresh new views (pardon the pun) or enjoy the revisitation again kinda like that part in the barn in Purple Rain? I digress.

The art is about the perinatal journey and that's the source of life as we know it. The Alien story is the glorification of the perfect being either discovered, captured or created and all by human involvement. Until now or should I say then or should I say soon? Alien: Covenant is a fun flick but for me an unapologetic nerd who will fuck you up, I need more mentalness. It's got cool tech but its light on Giger and ethos. The tagline of the original entry was "In space no one can hear you scream" because there is no sound in space. So any movie with explosions or billowing sail sounds while in orbit is bogus bro. Perhaps things are implied because I guess they think people who are going to see it aren't really committed to Prometheus which is definitely not the case.
Just want to be clear. I liked the movie even though it didn't meet my expectations just like when these assholes go to other people's places and call them aliens and fuck up their land with their shit. Maybe I'm a bit triggered. Thanks for, like the implanted creature in the astronaut, letting me get all this off my chest.
It's a challenge to write in a world where 140 character expressions and memes speak volumes virally. The pathogen of apathy is rampant but stay woke nerds. Hate World. Revenge soon!

My Brother in Christ

WHAT A NIGHT inside a new location in Deep Ellum. Not at Off The Record as shown on the flier. Nonetheless, the place was insane. Big up my man Moody and all the crew. The new spot or the current spot or is at least where we was at this month's first Thursday, May the Fourth be with you 2017 where we were entertained by the sounds played by crucial selectors like the one call Jay Clipp alongside 5D, JT Donaldson, DJ Spinderella, and Luke Sardello. Bare 45RPM 7"s flung from night. With my brother affectionally known as Lou Bird, Breakbeat Lou Flores. SALUTE. Love this brother! Met him when we were all in alliance with Beatminerz Radio. We build on the Christian foundation of Agape (Unconditional love). Foundation youth Lou Bird, blessed the decks boy! Sticking to a groove that kept the floor

MAY THE 4th BE WITH YOU

It's just a podcast. Get paid!
The theme is money. I thought it overkill to write the same description I have on the podcast page but what if you never go there? At any rate, I'm gonna regurge the sentient without plagiarizing myself. Basically, when I did this I wasn't thinking about Star Wars but you can definitely feel the force with all the bass and sound effects and what not. Pretty much most of my sets are organic. That's cool but I would prefer as an artist to be perfect and plan properly. Still, I can tell before going in by the time of day, my mind flow, the area I'm working, that everything is gonna be alright. As a practitioner of Feng Shui, I maintain positive energy in my environment. It's difficult because everybody not on that shit. With that been said, I know it's on me to be the change I want in my life. So here in a nutshell is a mix that's money based. Collaterals. Capitalism. Fulfillment and the fullness thereof. Getting the gwap, the trap, the plata, the FUCKING CASH! It's important to bag because money don't stay; its to spend, lose, and lend. PERIOD. Lets allow me to lighten up a bit. Apparently, all this talk of mammon got me spirited. Back to the force. Those few who that have yet to see anything in the Star Wars anthology should be familiar with THE FORCE, The god of science. I need it you need it and I hope you have it. PLEASE RATE COMMENT SUBSCRIBE DONATE AND SHARE. I'm doing my best to deliver my best for my family and culture. CoknI Know Idea - Type Therapeutic

My name is one of my pets. A pet name if you will. Why not?
Still, the point I'm making that the entitling of the event, COKNIO UNCHANGED's obviously a Django movie style thing. It was important to me as most things I am involved in is as important to you.The movie THE HARDER THEY COME that I saw in the movies at the ripe age of 6 with my family and the whole block to the Cambria Theater on the boulevard of Linden. In that movie, it shows a scene from Django and I was like yo!! I dug how the guys had red hoods on a teeming with gun. In the flim you watch the black faces in the cinema watching Django from the Kingston Rialto. Just the blend of the theater IRL and the scene on screen was like, NY and Jamaica captured in a moment together. One screen in front of me and the other on the letterbox of my heart. (cornball) At SIX I knew what was aesthetically appropriate in an urban Caribbean setting. I don't know if it was because the movie gave the Jamaican community great joy that they didn't give a fuck if they were saved and sanctified because was from out their Christian lips all in the theater is where I first heard all the CLOTS. I thought it was the movie but no .. the only cuss they say is fuck, tu rass and backside.

Let me get to point that I'm illustrating poorly of what I wish to convey. Part of the passion why I love DJs has a lot to my early introduction to music cinema and esoterica. You'll more than likely follow what I mean when you hear the type of music a play. The flave of the dancehall style that I enjoy which is JUGGLIN. If you know what that means, SALUTE. If you're not sure. SALUTE. Each one Teach one is a pillar. Basically, jugglin' comes from football jugglin where you keep the ball rolling in step; flipping different style displaying ill technique. It dazzles the watcher and can hypnotize a defender. (You know I'm talking about fut'bol right?)
Just like in the sport of DJing you are given media to transcribe to an audience in a way we would hope would rock. Some DJs I don't what they thinking. Its OK to stay home you know? Well, I was raised that this game is always collaborative. A DJ is a Disc Jockey and a Jockey haffi move YAW!!! And as an NFL reference, the QB is best from the pocket and running all over the place. It is entertaining but sometimes you are just required to do your job. Stay on the set and make the plays. ENOUGH SPORTS!! A MUSIC WE DEFEND. A selector knows how to pass it to the operator while the mixer is prepped propper making a creative cohesive experience for the crowd and mic chanter. The owner oughta make good on their investment. This reminds me of those sick dancehall tapes with Papa San and Lt. Stitchie and dem man deh. They would juggle lyrics and one of my favorite styles was when they would take a topic and make a party theme out of it. Like San did Animal Party and Stitchie did a thing with Ants where Super Cat kills it with Vineyard Party I think it name Ants A Badda Me. Wicked. (See link:) Point is they used to say things like "Keeping a dance inna di gun shop where every gatlin cock up to fire gun shot" or some shit like that.
I just be digging homogeneous lyrics. You know what I mean everything going together in a fine style.
Thanks for checking for this Umoja mix on the OTO Show podcast. This set is on that... I can't front, I was very happy with how the mix turned out and the crowd at Nola's in DTLA that Beautiful Cali night in spring 2013 [Pisces Season]. Shout to Zoe Saldana and my girl Amy Kravitz in the house!! Thanks again for spending this time with me again. Consistency requires the right type of mixing before you pour everything to make that cake. Seen

How To Change Your Life

The Four Agreements are:
1. Be Impeccable with your Word: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the Word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your Word in the direction of truth and love.
2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.
3. Don’t Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

It's My Beat

I love my children sincerely. I just know they can get on my nerves sometimes. I'm not ashamed to say, but I am learning more about who they are over what I want them to be. I pray they become who they wanna be and that I and their mom is able to provide all they need to reach their purpose in life. Also that we can tolerate their sometimes annoying process on their way to purpose. Its not easy, but I believe if I gotta beat it into you then its something you're not in to.
The bible talks about spare the rod; spoil the child. However, another of my beliefs is that the rod isn't corporal punishment but firm guidance like a shepherd guiding lambs out the street or away from wolves. If I beat them for doing wrong all the time, I'm establishing that they should be afraid of me when they make mistakes and they will be prone to become liars. Something I definitely don't want them to be but it would be something I created in them.
I was afraid of my dad. It cost me a possible successful art and music career. I was afraid to ask for the fare to go to the entrance exam at Art and Design High School. I coulda been in there the same time as Mobb Deep and Pharoahe
Pharoahe Monch and Me NY 1993
but I was afraid to ask for a simple thing because my dad established himself more as a person to fear than respect. I don't really blame him. His dad was a strict disciplinarian and so am I. The difference is I'm a big believer in THE WORD. That's what I beat them with because you can't beat that!!
I never thought I would beat my kids after 5 years of age because from my experience at 5 they are able to communicate quite well. Though we put them in kindergarten, never give up the opportunity to parent your children or guide your little nephews and cousins in the way they should go not the way YOU think they should go.

So all parents new and seasoned build up the courage to deal with your crazy kids so that their level of ignorance and awkwardness is not reason for you to hook off or body slam them but don't ease up. Anyone who obeys because they afraid to get their head flown or they get a reward for obedience is a pet, a slave who will never respect their masters. (Look like I got a lot to say today.) Think about who you respect either IRL or a sports figure or celebrity. I'm sure those persons have never inflicted violence on you or paid you for your homage. Right? We respond to their consistent goodness just like the God we serve. I'm a'end this by asking you to remember how good God has been to you, how bad your parents were to you, how better you could have liked to have been respected as a child, and how you want the best for your children and the next generation no matter how ratchet you are. Love is love. Ahight yaw stay chune. Book soon

WTF

Well this is just a free writing session. What I wanna say is somewhere in the recesses of my brain. I thought about that word 'recess' and never knew why that word meant break from school. In the dictionary the word means a small space created by building part of a wall further back from the rest : a table set into a recess.
a hollow space inside something : the concrete block has a recess in its base.
(usu. recesses) a remote, secluded, or secret place : the recesses of the silent pine forest | figurative the dark recesses of his soul.
2 a period of time when the proceedings of a parliament, committee, court of law, or other official body are temporarily suspended : talks resumed after a month's recess | the Senate was in recess.
a break between school classes : the mid-morning recess.
verb
1 [ trans. ] [often as adj. ] ( recessed) attach (a fitment) by setting it back into the wall or surface to which it is fixed : recessed ceiling lights.
2 [ intrans. ] (of formal proceedings) be temporarily suspended : the talks recessed at 2:15.
[ trans. ] suspend (such proceedings) temporarily.
(of an official body) suspend its proceedings for a period of time.

Whatever! I'm outta my mind and I like it. Waking up at odd hours to write or to watch NetFlix has been my norm for I don't know how long. One of these nights/early mornings, I'm gonna come up with the okey doke that will change the world. My family depends on it. Our future depends on it. The moves I make are not for me anymore. Everything is for them. When they grow and have pickney they may very well continue the legacy ill innovation.
My oldest Genesis is an ill dancer and a brave communicator. My youngest daughter Zuri Elle aka @BKLYNZU has mad talent. A freestyle beast. Nazzy, my son, is bonkers. Super intelligent, crazy funny and has a photographic memory.
The LORD has been real good to my family. If we never get filthy rich (which I can't see why wouldn't we) I'm content with where we are now. Its a happy moment. Namaste

Worst Show Ever

So yes I'm back! But for what? Same problems and worst than what I was going through before. The lid on my macbook is done so I have to prop it on the fruit bowl on the dining table for it to stay up. That's really not big of a deal. however because the camera is in the lid, there have been times the lid would drop BRROOP and close hard and there must be some connection damage in the hinge, there are times the iSight camera feels like it don't have to come on today and it don't care if I got a show to do or not. All them things can fix so I continue cut and go through.

There's a new Ustream broadcast web app which is great but it further reveals how lame my situation is. I get a message telling me either my computer or my web connection sucks because the quality that I desire to do my show with is not gonna happen according to them.

Then the video looks like old school MSN Messenger webcam interaction with the stop and go shit. Ain't nobody got time fi that. Still. Regardless of the challenges, I press on because I've had experiences on other cats sights and radio stations where the components appeared labored but I still enjoyed the music and the on air personality AND THAT AINT BROKE OVER HERE.

Please keep rocking with me and I know that day will come when Decent Something will be sounding like Hot 97 or something.

Just wanna big up Miss Lily everytime. I was listening at work and they had The Beatminerz Mr. Walt and Evil Dee on there rockin'! They broadcast from NYC and there is no extra antics. You don't see video, you hear music and the personalities. Me nuh thinkn me ago mek video kill da radio star yah!
This post is a bit of catharsis because InI just realize me nah go show off my face no longer. Just music me a go penetrate. See my live in LA Feb 26th for UMOJA at DUB CLUB if you love watch mon perform. In the meantime, keep on riggling and jiggling to the sounds of our age. BOOM

FastBook - Give It Up To Me

I been on Facebook from when and I've given it some of my best writing, ideas, jokes, memories, grievances, prayers, proverbs, pictures, reviews, etc. I've spent more time on facebook than with my god, my family and my friends. So today I'm deactivating my account. No worries. I appreciate facebook. I just need to spend more quality time with the people and things I have neglected for some time.

I'll still have my CoknIODire facebook.com/cokniodireone page but my personal O Williams aka King CoknI situation will be done done. If you don't hear from me that would be unfortunate because that means our only connect is just facebook.
Reach out when and if you can as will I (am) (stupid) LOL.

We'll see how it go this week. I'll know if I'm an addict in about an hour. Whenever I get the urge, I'm gonna draw for the basic instructions before leaving earth. After that I will spend a likkle time with my family. If they are not around I will call. If they can not be reached by phone I will write them a letter. True me have stamp. Then I'm a check for me real friends dem. Many of them are DJs and I want to be able to help them out as they have helped me out immensely.

Just had a thought. My sound system UMOJA has events to promote and has decided not to rely on social media solely. To do that is not the move. We know better to reach out on the real side. Invite through mail and phone. So me a'go do the same something. I'm mad excited about the outcome.
Pray for your boy king!

Peace.

PRO DUCTION

Thee frustration is that my current mac is mad slow. I have been pining to get more RAM for it and eventually get a new machine. In the interim I guess its best not too complain. I know people who don't even have electricity and me deh riff about latency. Still, I just wanted to know what you thought about the new edition to the site? As you can see you have the option of looking at past shows, see what them a say in the Social Network and chat with me and other viewers live all without interrupting what's being presented above. A friend at work had a problem when visiting the site for the first time and wasn't sure if they should click the 'Chatty Chatty" link to go tot the chatroom or what. By clicking it you were taken to another page and the show would reload. Not the best online experience in my opinion.

One thing that I work hard at, sometimes to a fault, is doing whatever i can to make the user experience high quality. Which leads me to why I'm even blogging right now. I've been listening to past performances of Decent Something and the OTO Morning Show and while the shows are dope, they need quite a bit of improvement. I'm doing a lot on the fly and many times I commit trainwreckage. Right now s I type, I am laying out the whole scheme of my show just like a professional director would do and have all the elements pre selected because when I'm live and I think of things on the fly, the searching over burdens the processor and causes the infamous beachball leaving me in cyber limbo. Then I got to fill up space with mindless banter about naught. Not doing that no more.

Thee other thing I've noticed that my energy as well as my viewership has plummeted so definitely I need to get on it on it alright alright. My health is stable and I fixed the headphone jack on my mixer. You will hear better blends, iller freestyles, appropriate effects and graphics and of course the best in decent music.

Please holler at me and let me know you read this and if you have any ideas as to make the shows any better I am open to hear at this stage of production. JAH BLESS

GIVE THANKS

Happy Thanksgiving and I pray you have a great holiday during this time. I have a lot to be thankful for, but right now all I can think about is the digital recorder my brother in law let me hold. Its been I don't know how long since I made a mix cd or posted a podcast. The only means of recording I had was the input on my computer that's jacked up and only records the left channel and my cassete deck that hasn't  worked for maybe 10 years or so.
Now that I got this component, I'm back in business. Now when the ladies at my kids school ask for a work out mix or a Christmas CD or an old school this that and whatever, I can be like BAM!!. Now I need to get some ink for the printer to make some cool labels and ting! Oh! Yo! I told you I got my cards made right? See?
Now I can't make any excuses. Look forward to my soundcloud poppin and nuff more things before 2012. You see me? I know you can see me now.
